Brian Healy talks to the Graduate Business School
Brian Healy, Director of Traded Markets, Development & Operations at the Irish Stock Exchange visited our students last Friday the 15th April. The talk was attended by over 30 students and Alan Lynch, Interim Head of Faculty for the Graduate Business School.
Brian gave a fascinating insight into the Irish Stock Exchange, its history, and practical advice and information about brokering. During the talk, Brian pointed out that during the recession, the Irish Stock Market actually continued to grow, albeit at a slower pace than recent years. This buckled the worldwide trend within financial services when a large number of companies struggled, and in some cases, failed to survive.
In a fascinating insight on the exchange, Brian discussed:
- The various types of companies on the Exchange;
- Sovereign debt in the Debt Listing Global Footprint;
- Realities of the Security Market including competition, consolidation, competition for customers and a challenging economic background; and
- The necessities and risks involved with the continuing reliance on technological advances.
