Overview

Beyond the Jerk du Jour - Overcoming Difficult Challenges and People

Why study Communicating Assertively at Griffith College?

It's so easy for someone or something to ruin your day or even your week. How do you approach challenging conversations or situations and come out feeling intact? Believe it or not, it's possible.

This course helps you:

  • Build assertive communication skills with the power of constructive communication to convey messages even to difficult people.
  • Learn the importance of verbal and non-verbal skills in how you are acting and behaving, but also in understanding other people.
  • Understand how to communicate with courage and intention so you come across as more competent and confident.
  • De-escalate conflict and overcome negativity so you don't get hijacked by other people's behaviour or comments easily.
  • Understand the triggers which make communication challenging so you can gain new skills to overcome them.

When you get more assertive skills and understand how conflicts emerge, you are well prepared to deal differently with challenging people or events. By having some specific skills you can use, you will find that your response will change and the outcomes will be different. You will be more empowered and your stress levels will be lower.
