Overview

Gain a critical understanding of digital photography and develop key technical skills.

This module is designed to enable learners to explore the basic principles of digital photography while teaching crucial practical techniques.

Why Study Digital Photography at Griffith College?

The Digital Photography course is conducted on a part-time evening basis over an 12-week period. This course is aimed at ambitious beginner photographers and has an emphasis on photography’s aesthetic and social contexts.

  • You will gain confidence in the basic principles of digital photography, including understanding input and output devices, the digital camera and the digital darkroom.
  • You will gain an understanding of the effective use of industry standard image manipulation software and the processes from image capture to manipulation and output.
  • You will have an opportunity to put the acquired knowledge into practice by undertaking guided and self-directed projects and practical assignments.
  • Small  class sizes ensure that you get the one-on-one attention needed to perfect your technical and creative skills. 
  • Option to further your studies in this area by pursuing our Certificate in Photography course.

Entry Requirements

Mature Students

If you are 23 years or over from the 1st January of this year, you can apply for this course directly using the College’s online application form.

Under 23 Years 

Old Leaving Cert (Pre 2017)

Two Honours Level, Grade C3s or above and four Ordinary Level D3s (subjects to include a language, English, Irish or another language) or equivalent exam taken.

New Leaving Cert:

2 H5 and 4 O6/H7 grades, to include a language (English, Irish or another language).
