Institute of Irish Designers Graduate Design Awards

The Institute of Irish Designers Graduate Design Awards are organized by 'The Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI). This is the professional body representing the interests of Irish designers. 'Its function is to promote high standards of design, to foster professionalism and to emphasise designers' responsibility to society, to the client and to each other.' IDI Website

The Institute of Irish Designers Graduate Design Awards is a celebration of emerging original design talent from all of the Irish Higher education institutions who offer design programmes. Griffith College students studying Interior Design and Interior Architecture have done extremely well at these awards, winning the top coveted award in their category over the past couple of years.

The Digital Hub Best in Show

The Digital Hub is a vibrant group of digital content and technology enterprises, located in the heart of Dublin city. The Digital Hub was established by the Irish government in 2003. 'The Digital Hub's main aim is to foster innovation, technological development and creativity in a supportive, entrepreneurial environment.' Digital Hub Website

Best in Show

The Digital Hub Exhibit Programme goal is to showcase creativity in cutting edge digital media and technology, and to inspire new ideas for research, art and business. In past exhibits, computer games, animation, digital media technologies and digital art have been showcased. The Best in Show programme attracts applications from colleges and universities all over Ireland. In 2010, one of our Griffith College students, Katrine Westum won first prize in the category of Interior Design.

World Expo Shanghai

The World's Expo is one of the largest public exhibitions in the world. The Expo presents new inventions, facilitates cultural exchange based on a theme, and they are used for city, region and national branding. In 2010, Griffith College students Fashion design students, James Seaver, Jialing Zhao and Zhi Qian Yu had the opportunity to exhibit their work at the World Expo in Shanghai.

Student Wood Awards

In 2010, Griffith College student Anna Andersson was nominated for her project in sustainable technologies in the 'Innovative Use of Timber in Design' category.

'The awards are open to higher level education students who incorporate wood as an inherent element in their projects. They are regarded as the premier awards for higher level education students of architecture, engineering and design in Ireland who specialise in making work in timber and timber products. Award winners have gone on to pursue successful careers in wood and related businesses and have exhibited at Irish and international shows. The objective of the awards is to encourage students to explore functional, aesthetic and design aspects of wood.'  WMF Website

The Wood Marketing Federation (WMF) is an Irish non-profit making organisation, founded in 1989 to promote wood as a renewable, sustainable and versatile natural material. They are responsible for holding the Student Wood Awards.

Dublin City Entrepreneur 2011

In 2011, former Griffith College interior design student, Deirdre Hardiman won Dublin City Enterprise Entrepreneur of the Year Award. She set up her own interior design company Hepburn Designs which is based in Dublin.

Nokia Young Fashion Designers Award

The Nokia Young Fashion Designers award is the premier student fashion design award in Ireland. Students from design colleges all over Ireland have the opportunity to enter this competition. Griffith College students were finalists in the Nokia Young Fashion Designers competition in 2010. Check out this youtube video showcasing their work.
