Awards recognise high achievement of Griffith Design students.

On 23 May, Griffith College’s Gerry Triyadi was announced as the overall winner of the ‘Built Environment’ category at the Universal Design Awards.

Gerry and Birgitte Albrigtsen, both final year Interior Architecture students at Griffith, were two of the three finalists in the category. It was Griffith’s first appearance in the final.

Programme Director for Interior Architecture at Griffith, Britt Berentzen, said ‘Not only were we were delighted to have two students shortlisted for this year’s Universal Design Awards, but to see Gerry named the winner is just brilliant! It’s not easy standing up in front of all those people so we’re so proud of him and Birgitte. We hope this is the start of many more to come!’

Nine finalists from colleges around Ireland were judged on the presentation of their designs. Finalists will compete for the Judges’ Choice Award, the People’s Choice Award and the Enterprise Ireland Universal Design Commercialisation Award.

There are three ‘Judges Awards’ categories in the completion:

  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Built Environment
