CAO Advice & Tips

The CAO application system
Irish Leaving Certificate and FETAC students are required to use the CAO application system when applying for full-time QQI courses at Griffith College. The CAO system only applies to applications for first year admissions to undergraduate full-time day courses described in the College prospectus or on this website, and all programmes have a CAO Course code.
The CAO Handbook 2018 and paper applications can be requested from the Central Applications Office (CAO), Tower House, Eglinton Street, Galway or your Career Guidance Counsellor will have a supply.
Please note that there is a standard application fee of €45 made payable to CAO on submitting your CAO application form.

CAO Points Calculation
Selection of CAO applicants will be made on the basis of points. Your points will be calculated by adding together the points scored in the best of six subjects in a single sitting of the Leaving Certificate. The results of two sittings at Leaving Certificate (or equivalent examination) can be combined for the purposes of meeting the subject requirements for minimum entry.
