Biography

Sara B. Donaldson is Senior Lecturer in Visual Culture and Theory at Griffith College Dublin, where she lectures in the History and Theory of Art, Design, Architecture, Costume, Fashion, Graphic Design and Illustration and Visual Culture. Sara is a Principal Lecturer at the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV), where she lectures on the Fine and Decorative Arts Diploma, Certificate and special lecture courses. Sara guest lectures on the Postgraduate Diploma in Fashion Buying and Management at Dublin Institute of Technology where she delivered a module in Sociology of Fashion in 2015-2016. Sara researches and writes the text for the National Gallery of Ireland Calendar and Diary. She is author of the National Gallery of Ireland Companion Guide (2009, Scala) and contributor to Highlights of the Collection: National Gallery of Ireland (2016, Scala Arts & Heritage). Sara was Research Fellow at the National Gallery of Ireland where she worked in the Curatorial Department, curating and assisting the curation of several large and small exhibitions. While Research Fellow, she had curatorial responsibility for the French collection. Prior to this she had worked as a tour guide for the National Gallery and continues to guest lecture for the Gallery. Sara has lectured at University College Dublin, Dublin Institute of Technology, the National College of Art and Design, Limerick School of Art & Design and Burren College of Art, and has worked as an Art Consultant to Bank of Ireland and as a Collections Surveyor for the Heritage Council. She has contributed to publications including The Buyers’ Guide to Irish Art, The Irish Arts Review, Ireland’s Antiques and Period Properties and The Property Professional. Sara read History of Art and Archaeology in University College Dublin, graduating with a First Class Honour in History of Art in her BA. She was awarded a postgraduate scholarship by UCD, completing an MLitt (with Distinction) in History of Art. Sara also holds an MA in History of Design and Material Culture from NCAD, and a Higher Certificate in Education and Training from Griffith College Dublin.
