Lisa Cosgrave Places First in the World in Her Accountancy Exams.

Griffith College graduate places first in the world in her accountancy exams

Lisa Cosgrave, a resident of Gorey, recently earned first place in the world in the Paper P7 Association of Certified Charted Accountants exam (ACCA). Lisa, who was competing against 8,778 other students taking the paper, sat the exam as a distance-learning student of Griffith College Dublin.

Speaking about her achievement Lisa said, “Since winning the award I’ve been allocated a lot more audit work than I had before-hand so they know I’m able to apply it by doing the ACCA exam.”

The Association of Certified Charted Accountants is the world’s largest professional accountancy body with over 500,000 members in 170 countries, and is recognised by employers throughout the world.

Commenting on Lisa’s achievements, Ann Donegan, Head of the School of Professional Accountancy at Griffith College, said: “The focus of the School of Professional Accountancy at Griffith College is helping our students achieve the best possible results. Employers look very favorably on prize-winners and Lisa’s achievement at such a young age will no doubt open many doors for her in the future”

Suzanne Burdis, who lecturers in the area of Professional Accountancy at Griffith College said: “All the Professional Accountancy exams are extremely difficult and the pass rates are very low. Anybody who passes a professional accountancy exam has done exceptional hard work and made a huge commitment in order to get through those exams. P7 the pass rate is currently about 32% so anybody who passes that exam is in a very small minority and it takes a huge effort to get through it.  Suzanne further added: “Getting 50 percent in those papers is a massive undertaking for any student; Lisa got 79 percent which you might expect not to be first in the world but that’s how difficult the paper is.”

The School of Professional Accountancy at Griffith College continues to grow and develop, with a total of 523 prize-winning students to date, including 9 firsts in the world.
