Tune into Griff FM!
This year Griffith College’s student radio station, Griff FM, will begin broadcasting for 9 days from Saturday 24th January until Sunday 1st February.
Programming will include talk based student-produced shows such as Drivetime Live, D8, GCD @ 3, The Arts Show, The Griff FM Late Breakfast Show, Griff FM Sports Shows and Griff FM News, The Living Room, Griff FM Midday Live, as well as a full daily schedule of current affairs and chat radio, documentaries and music shows.
The full schedule will be posted on the radio’s facebook page soon.
This year’s editors are former students, Alan Oliver, who has been Station Editor since 2012, and MA Journalism & Media Communications graduate, Peadar Breathnach.
“Griff FM is a great chance for the 40 journalism students involved to learn key radio and broadcast skills, and produce high quality radio content that will provide them with the practical skills and experience needed to establish a career in radio. The students will gain real insight into what it is like to run a radio station. They are responsible for devising the programme schedule, and sourcing the guests and relevant material for the shows. They will learn how to produce and present a show, learn the technical know-how to work a sound desk, and experience how to react quickly to the unexpected challenges that can arise during live broadcast radio conditions.”
- Alan Oliver, Griff FM Station Editor
Launching Radio Careers
Griff FM has been the launch pad for numerous former students, including Chris Donoghue of Newstalk and UTV Ireland, Mark Simpson of Newstalk, Louise Denver of RTÉ, Sinead Dalton of TV3 and Daniel Flanagan of Newstalk.

Annual Launch Event
The radio station’s launch event is taking place at Griffith College’s Dublin campus on Monday 26 January from 6.30pm. One of Ireland’s top radio and television presenters, Pat Kenny from Newstalk 106-108FM and UTV Ireland will be there to officially launch the station for 2015. Pat has a long and illustrious career having previously presented ‘The Late Late Show’ and ‘Today with Pat Kenny’ on RTÉ, before moving to Newstalk in 2013.
“I am delighted to have been invited to launch Griff FM. For many students this will be their first opportunity to practice the art of broadcasting outside the confines of the classroom. It is an exciting time and I am looking forward to sharing in the excitement.”
- Pat Kenny, Newstalk and UTV Ireland presenter
Also taking part in the launch will be Henry McKean of Under the Covers and Moncrieff shows on Newstalk. Henry is a journalism graduate of the Faculty of Journalism & Media Communications at Griffith College and began his broadcasting career on Griff FM.
Here’s wishing all our journalism students working on Griff FM over the next week the very best of luck!
