Three Graphic Communication Design Graduates Accepted into the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD)
Griffith College is proud to celebrate three graduates of the BA (Hons) in Graphic Communication Design programme who have been accepted into the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD), a global professional body for typographers, designers, educators, and enthusiasts.
Founded in 1928 as the British Typographers’ Guild, the ISTD promotes high standards in typographic design and provides opportunities for professional development, networking, and international recognition through initiatives like the Student Assessment Scheme and the International Typographic Awards.
Three Griffith College students were recognised for their creative excellence and refined typographic skills:
Charee Monroy – Biodiversity and Monoculture in Ireland
Responding to the ‘Not Just the Fleurons’ brief, Charee’s project explores Dublin’s manmade monoculture forests and its biodiverse parks. Using abstract visuals from photographs of trees and leaves, she created textured “blocks of text” within a structure and elegant layout that reflects Ireland’s changing relationship with its native forests.
Elizaveta Tolmacheva – Destination–Journey
Created for the ‘Milestones’ brief, Elizaveta’s project explores societal expectations and self-discovery through a father and daughter’s contrasting perspectives. Using distinct typographic voices, she encourages readers to navigate life’s milestones in their own way. Elizaveta was awarded a Merit for her thoughtful concept and strong execution.
Sophie Schachten – Digital Greenhouse
In response to ‘Not Just the Fleurons’, Sophie examined the idea of digital gardens: online spaces where ideas grow and evolve. Her mobile-first design reflects these virtual ecosystems, weaving a consistent visual thread through the project’s format, structure, and typography.
Acceptance into the ISTD is a prestigious achievement, recognising creativity, technical skill, and typographic excellence on an international stage. We are proud to congratulate Charee, Elizaveta, and Sophie on their outstanding success!
