Griffith College Cork Celebrates 2025 Graduates and Honours Peter O’Mahony for Leadership and Excellence
Griffith College Cork proudly celebrated its graduating Class of 2025 this week with a vibrant ceremony that honoured student achievement, community spirit and leadership - both on and off the pitch.
A highlight of the day was the presentation of the Griffith College Professional Excellence Award to Peter O’Mahony, former Munster and Ireland rugby captain, recognising his outstanding contribution to Irish sport and the values of integrity, teamwork and determination that he embodies.
Celebrating Leadership and Inspiration
In a packed ceremony attended by graduates, families, staff and special guests, Professor Diarmuid Hegarty, President of Griffith College, presented the award to O’Mahony, commending his “skill, work ethic and leadership - qualities that inspire not only his teammates but also the next generation of leaders we see graduating here today.”
A proud Cork native, O’Mahony has represented Munster, Ireland and the British & Irish Lions, captaining at every level from school to international rugby. His career has been defined by passion, resilience, and success, including Ireland’s historic series win in New Zealand.
Following the ceremony, O’Mahony joined students and staff for photographs and a light-hearted rugby skills session on campus, celebrating the spirit of teamwork and shared achievement that defines Griffith College Cork.
A Day of Pride and Possibility
More than 400 students graduated from the Cork campus this month across various disciplines, including business, law, computing, and pharmaceutical management. The day marked both personal milestones and the collective success of Griffith’s growing Cork community.
“Graduation is always a special day,” said Jim Daly, Head of Griffith College Cork. “It’s a celebration of hard work, ambition and friendship. We’re especially delighted to have Peter O’Mahony with us to honour our graduates and share in the joy of the occasion.”
Across Griffith’s three campuses - in Cork, Dublin and Limerick - over 2,900 graduates are receiving their qualifications this month, making Griffith College Ireland’s largest private higher education institution.
As Cork continues to grow as a hub for education and innovation, Griffith College Cork remains committed to nurturing talent, confidence and leadership - qualities exemplified by this year’s graduates and by Peter O’Mahony himself.
The Professional Excellence Award is presented to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to professional and/or educational development at a national level in Ireland.
