Professional Summary

Fergal is the Programme Director of the Computing Faculty in Griffith College Cork, overseeing two undergraduate computing degree programmes. He hopes to nurture the Cork faculty's continued growth among both students and staff, maintain its high academic standards, and instil in its students a passion and lifelong enthusiasm for the ever-evolving and expanding field of computer science.

Academic and Professional Background

Fergal joined Griffith College Cork as a lecturer in 2019 after a number of years working in the Disability Support Services of the Munster Technological University and previously at UCC. He also spent several years lecturing in UCC and MTU and more recently with Griffith College Limerick. He has been Programme Director since 2021.

Teaching, Research, or Leadership Focus

Fergal has a BSc in Computing & Mathematics from UCC and is close to completing a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Conor Ryan at UL. His research interests include machine learning, AI and optimisation, and he has published several conference & journal articles in these areas.
