She holds a Masters of Musicology and a Bachelor of Music Degree from Maynooth University, and a Higher Diploma in Arts in Music Education from the Leinster School of Music & Drama, Griffith College Dublin. From 2012 – 2017 Kirstie taught piano, musicianship and early education programmes in a number of music institutions and organisations in Ireland. She has been invited to and presented her research ‘The Role of Women in Irish Music Institutions in the Twentieth Century’ at national and international conferences. Her research interest is focused on music education and gender issues in Ireland, and the role of music in cultural politics in the twentieth century. She is a member of the Society of Musicology in Ireland (SMI), the Society of Music Education in Ireland (SMEI) and the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies (CNCS).
