The increased availability of AI tools brings increased awareness of potential issues.

A new report by ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) provides an introduction to and overview of machine learning, particularly the influence it will have on the field of accountancy.

As described in ACCA’s report, machine learning is ‘a sub-set of AI that is generally understood as the ability of the system to make predictions or decisions based on the analysis of a large historical dataset.’

The report also considers the ethical concerns behind the use of machine learning. It is vital that accountants ‘consider, and appropriately manage, potential ethical compromises that may result from decision making by an algorithm.’
