Travelling to college on a budget

student commuting

When you are attending a college in the city, there are a lot of travel options at your disposal: car, bus, bike, taxi, skateboard, segway, e-bike, pogo stick… Okay maybe not a pogo stick, but there are definitely an abundance of transport to be availed of, see below to see some of the options:

Public Transport

When you are a student, you can avail of a student leap card, which gives you student discounts across all public transport services, like Dublin Bus and Irish Rail. If you have an android phone, you can top up your card with credit using the leap card app and your phones NFC technology, if it has it, and all you need to do is tag your card off a tagging station either on the bus or on a luas or Irish rail platform. Easy!

For all you kids lucky enough to be studying in Griffith College Dublin, take the Dublin Bus 122 from Abbey Street, which drops you right at the college door, or the 9 or 16 (which you can always the opposite way all the way to the airport!) from O'Connell Street, they drop you off on Harrington Street, only a 2 minutes walk away. You can also take green line luas from St. Stephens Green to Charlemont, which is a 10 minutes walk down the beautiful canal to the college!

Possibly the cheapest option, if you're lucky enough to live close enough to the city, buying a bike is a must! You avoid the traffic and unless you run over a nail and don't keep it ticking over with some WD-40, you have no running costs! Don't live close to the city? No worries! You can avail of the Coca-Cola Zero bike services after you commute. It cost 25 euro a year to register for an annual card, which allows you to use the many numbers of Coca-Cola Zero bikes that are available throughout the city!

You lucky Griffith College goers have access to a Dublin bike station only on Harrington Street! Right around the corner!
