Employee Experience

Our Commitment to a Positive Employee Experience

At Griffith College, we believe that our employees are the foundation of our reputation for learner success and our robust academic offerings. To honour this, we have developed an Employee Experience Programme that promotes a positive, engaging, and enriching environment for all staff members. This programme is designed to enhance the overall wellbeing and job satisfaction of our employees, contributing to a thriving staff community.

Our Employee Experience Programme is more than just a set of benefits - it's a holistic approach to ensure our employees are supported, engaged, and satisfied in their roles. By focusing on the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment to retirement, we aim to create an atmosphere that fosters personal growth, collaboration, and job satisfaction.

Our Initiatives
To support our employees' wellbeing and engagement, we offer a variety of initiatives as part of our Employee Experience Programme*:

  • Investment in Staff Development: We are deeply committed to the professional and personal growth of our staff. We offer a variety of development programmes and resources to help employees expand their skills, pursue their passions, and advance their careers at Griffith College.
  • Yoga Classes: Emphasising the importance of physical and mental health, we provide yoga classes to help employees relax, refocus and rejuvenate.
  • EU Cycle Friendly Employer: We are proud to be a certified EU Cycle Friendly Employer. We facilitate the Bike to Work Scheme, encouraging staff members to enjoy the health and environmental benefits of cycling.
  • Free Counselling Services: Recognising that mental wellbeing is crucial for a positive work environment, we provide free counselling services for our staff (and learners and residents). These confidential services offer support for personal and professional concerns.
  • On-site Gym: To promote physical fitness and wellbeing, our S.C.R. campus boasts a free on-site gym. It's the perfect place to relieve stress and stay active.
  • Staff Social Club: Our staff social club organises several events throughout the year, combining exciting activities with opportunities for socialising and a meal. It's a great way to bond with colleagues outside of the typical work environment.
  • Golf Society: For the golf enthusiasts among us, our Golf Society provides a fantastic opportunity to play, compete, and socialise with fellow staff members.
  • Calendar of Events: We host a diverse calendar of events for staff including BBQs, Pancake Tuesday celebrations, Griffith Go! events, wellness talks, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) events, and more. These events foster a sense of community, collaboration, and celebration within our workforce.

At Griffith College, we are committed to supporting our employees, fostering a positive work environment, and creating a culture that values the unique contributions of each staff member. We believe that happy, engaged staff lead to a successful, thriving college community.

*Note some initiatives are campus specific.

Social Club

Griffith College offers a staff social club co-funded by the college and the employees. Several events are held throughout the year, incorporating a range of activities from horse riding, to go-karting, golf and nights out at comedy shows and the theatre. Events are usually combined with a post-event restaurant meal and socialising.

Cycle Friendly Employer

Griffith College has been recognised as an EU-certified Gold Standard Cycle Friendly Employer (CFE) from Cycling Solutions Ireland. Griffith is the first private college in Ireland to receive the award and places us alongside public universities DCU and UCD as the first three higher ed institutes in Ireland to achieve this status.

The Cycle Friendly Employer project is an EU certification scheme developed by the European Cyclists’ Federation which sets out the European standard for cycle-friendly workplaces. The cycle-friendly model has been developed and tested across Europe and is an EU-wide platform for evaluation, auditing, and accreditation.

Certification under the Cycle Friendly Employer Scheme is built around several cycle-friendly measures. Griffith College S.C.R. was recognised following an audit across a number of areas with improvements made across facilities (showering, drying rooms, bike parking and maintenance stands).

The award isn't the end of our endeavours, Griffith will continue to invest in facilities to support and promote commuting by bike to campus in the coming years, and active transport will form a key part of the S.C.R. campus redevelopment plan.

As Ireland looks to cut its carbon emissions in half by 2030, these efforts are aimed at improving and expanding sustainable mobility options for campus journeys by providing safe, green and accessible alternatives to car journeys.

A key part of our support is the ability for staff to avail of savings of up to 52% on a bike and safety accessories by joining the Cycle to Work scheme. To avail of the scheme please email [email protected]
