Black History Month: Reclaiming Narratives
Griffith College Law Faculty celebrated Black History Month with an event for staff and learners on Friday, October 18th at the Dublin Main Campus.
Precious Abebe BL and Programme Director for the LL.B.(Hons) via Blended Learning, organised and chaired the event in which panellists Stephanie Nwambu, Aine Mulloy and Dr. Amanda Byer explored the theme of the event, “Reclaiming Narratives”, discussing stories and voices that shaped history and will impact our future.
Aine Mulloy shared, "It is fantastic to see Black History Month finally being celebrated in Ireland; it's definitely been overlooked from the mainstream for quite a while. It is great to see panels and events that are being hosted by and containing people of colour, as often it can be a tokenised situation where you have a white moderator and an all-white panel with a token black person on the end. Long may events like this one organised by Griffith College continue to grow from here."
Attendees at the event joined in meaningful discussions and celebrated the rich diversity of Black experiences over a cup of tea and sweet treats.
A huge Thank You to Precious, the Law Faculty, and Becks Butler for organising the event, and of course, our panellists Stephanie, Aine, and Amanda for sharing their time and experience with Griffith College's staff and learners.
