Griffith College Cork Journalism student among top female journalists to watch

.

Griffith College Cork Journalism student Shamim Malekmian has made the list of top female journalists to watch in Ireland.

This month  Ireland's leading media directory put out a list of the 20 female journalists it considers are doing 'incredible work in the media industry'. Shamim, now in her final year of journalism at Griffith College Cork, caught the eye of Media HQ, alongside journalists such as Una Mullaly and Sorsha Pollak of the Irish Times; Caitriona Perry, presenter with 'Six One News', and former Washington Correspondent with RTE, and Dearbhail McDonald, Group Business Editor at the Independent News and Media Group.

Media HQ tipped its hat to Shamim's work as Senior Reporter for Green News, where she draws attention to environmental issues, with the hopes of working to improve our relationship with the natural world. Shamim also contributes to the Irish Examiner, Cork’s Evening Echo and the Dublin Inquirer. Shamim is also drawn to what she refers to as “stories about underdogs” and has written on issues around homelessness, mental health, and social injustice.

Needless to say, we at Griffith Journalism Cork are very proud of Shamim, and look forward to watching her career blossom.
