Griffith College Journalism Alumnus Appointed Managing Editor of RTÉ Radio 1

Mark Simpson, a graduate of Griffith College’s Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism, has been appointed Managing Editor of RTÉ Radio 1.

Before joining RTÉ, Simpson was Deputy Managing Editor at Newstalk, part of Bauer Media Audio Ireland, where he played a key role in shaping the station’s editorial output. In his new role at RTÉ Radio 1, he will be responsible for overseeing the station’s editorial strategy and programming.

Simpson is a graduate of Griffith College’s Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism, a programme focused on practical, hands-on training in multimedia reporting, investigative journalism and digital communications. Building on this foundation, he established a successful career in broadcast journalism and editorial leadership, contributing to the evolving landscape of Irish media.

In RTÉ’s official announcement, Head of RTÉ Radio 1, Tara Campbell, welcomed Simpson’s appointment, citing his editorial leadership and industry experience.
