Settling in to Life at Griffith College Dublin

Griffith College greeted by President Diarmuid Hegarty at Induction

Firstly, if you are an incoming student at Griffith College Dublin this September, congratulations! An exciting new chapter in your life lies ahead, with the opportunity to further your education, engage in extracurricular activities, and meet new people in a vibrant city.

Starting life at a new college can often mean taking care of a few important administrative tasks as studies begin, so we have put this piece together to help you do just that!

Familiarise Yourself with Campus

Located on the South Circular Road, Dublin 8, our Dublin Main Campus is easily accessible by public transport from Dublin city centre. The College is well served by Dublin Bus routes and the Luas Green Line. The 122 Dublin Bus route drops you off right beside the campus, and the Harcourt Luas stop, a 15-minute walk away, is also a popular choice for students.

Once you have arrived on campus, this campus map will help you locate your lecture rooms or any campus facilities you wish to use. We also have a handy YouTube video which will help you get to know our Dublin Main Campus.

Signing Up for Societies

At Griffith, some of the best ways to meet new people are by joining a society or sports club and participating in one of our trips, which take place around the country. If you were unable to drop by the Student Union and Student Activities information stands at Induction, just pop in to the SU building (first on your left when you enter our Dublin Main Campus) or the Student Activities office (room D014) on campus - they will be happy to assist you with any questions you have.

Get to Know the Students' Union

The SU building is one of the best facilities available to students at Griffith College, offering a wide range of facilities, including hangout areas, a pool table, ping pong, Xbox and PS5 consoles, movies, and a kitchen area. In addition to providing facilities and organising events, the Student Union serves as the representative body for all Griffith College students. Their building is the first on your left when you enter our Dublin Main Campus.

Pick a Class Representative

Class reps are an integral part of the student council and are chosen by you and your classmates to be your representative to the faculty and the Student Union. The elected class rep’s role is to gather feedback from classmates and express these views to the Students' Union and/or the faculty directly. At the beginning of the semester, the Students' Union will contact faculty members to have each class elect a class representative. Each new class, whether full-time or part-time, will be asked to elect a class representative (depending on the class size, they can either elect one or two class representatives). To learn more about class representatives, check out this useful FAQ piece on the SU’s website and don’t hesitate to reach out to the Students’ Union directly through Instagram, by emailing ([email protected]), or by dropping in to the SU building on campus.

Signing up for a Student Leap Card

A Leap Card is a reusable plastic smart card that can be used in place of paper tickets to pay as you go for transport in Dublin. This card is used to store travel credit that is deducted as and when you use it when travelling on public transport.

  • The Student TFI Leap Card is only available for Students in full-time (16+ hours) education/training, who are either 16 -18 years of age or 26 years and above. Their course must be for a duration of at least 6 months/26 weeks.

  • The Young Adult TFI Leap Card is available to all individuals aged 19 to 25.

Those looking to apply can do so on the Transport for Ireland Leap Card website.
