Alen Jacob

I am a cinematographer drawn to character-driven stories and the subtle visual details that shape how an audience feels a moment. As Director of Photography for Capturing Albatross, I worked on a story centred around an aging activist forced to reconnect with his estranged granddaughter, a relationship that slowly exposes the emotional distance in his own life. My approach to the film was grounded in naturalism and restraint. Rather than relying on overt visual style, I focused on motivated lighting, controlled camera movement, and allowing space for performance to lead the frame. The visual language begins with colder, more isolated tones, gradually transitioning into warmth as the emotional connection between the characters develops. I was closely involved in shaping the lighting design, camera approach, and final colour grade to support this progression. This project strengthened my belief that strong cinematography is not about attention, but intention and that meaningful work is built through collaboration, patience, and trust in the process.
