Capturing Albatross follows Patrick Keating, an ageing activist and reluctant  father/grandfather, who is suddenly left to care for his eight-year-old granddaughter, Izzy, for an afternoon. What begins as an awkward collision of generations slowly becomes a tender reconnection with family, memory, and the things that truly matter.
I was drawn to Cian Nugent’s script for its honesty and restraint. Pat has spent decades chasing distant causes while quietly missing the life happening at home. The arrival of Izzy forces him to confront his solitude and the quiet regret that has settled in. The albatross becomes our central metaphor: rare, free, soaring creatures that rarely touch land — much like the life Pat once lived. At its heart, this is a story about showing up. About choosing presence over grand gestures. About the possibility that it’s never too late to capture what’s right in front of you.
