Death Notice of Kathryn Smith
It is with deep sadness that Griffith College Dublin acknowledges the passing of Kathryn Smith, celebrated soprano and longtime friend of the College, who died peacefully last Friday.
Kathryn was a distinguished classical singer and vocal educator whose career spanned stages in Ireland, the UK, Italy, France, Canada, Japan, and the United States. She was a teacher and examiner with the Leinster School of Music and Drama for many decades, and a valued member of the wider Griffith College community.
Many will remember her warmly for the Christmas carol concerts she led in the College Auditorium, which brought together students, staff, and professional performers over many years.
Karen Casey, Head of Faculty of the Leinster School of Music and Drama, paid tribute:
"Kathryn was always passionate about and invested in her singing, teaching, and examining. Her contribution to and development of the LSMD's singing syllabus is a testament to all that, too. Many of the students, teachers, performers, and friends are better for having met Kathryn. The enthusiasm, energy, and positivity that she brought into all our lives will never be forgotten."
Our sincerest condolences go to her husband, Martin, her family, and her many friends and colleagues in the arts.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
