Griffith College’s Faculty of Law recently travelled to Brussels for its annual EU Institutions trip, an immersive three-day experience at the heart of European governance and law.

The visit began at the Council of the European Union, where students gained valuable insight into how policy decisions are negotiated and agreed across member states.

On day two, students explored the European Parliament, including a visit to the parliamentary chamber and the Parlamentarium. They also engaged with the European Committee of the Regions, developing a deeper understanding of the EU’s democratic processes and the role of regional representation. Hearing directly from officials and observing the workings of these institutions provided an invaluable perspective on legislative practice.

The final day brought students to the European Commission, where they learned more about its role in proposing legislation and upholding EU treaties. A discussion with the European Data Protection Supervisor further enriched the experience, offering insight into data protection and regulatory oversight at the EU level.

Over three days, students visited four key institutions, gaining first-hand exposure to the structures and processes that shape European law and policy.

This annual trip is a cornerstone of the Griffith College Law experience, connecting academic study with practical insight and helping students deepen their understanding of the European legal landscape as they prepare for future careers in law.
