The Lighthouse Cinema was alive with energy on Wednesday, 4th June, as final-year Film & TV Production students from Griffith College took over the iconic Smithfield venue for their graduate film premiere. The screening marked the official launch of the Creative Arts & Screen Media showcase, part of Griffith Creative 2025 which is a month-long celebration of student work across creative disciplines.

With the cinema’s iconic setting as a backdrop, the evening delivered a powerful mix of genres, styles, and storytelling. From experimental visuals to emotionally grounded narratives, the screening offered a glimpse into the next generation of Irish filmmakers.

This year’s screening was officially opened by Patricia Kelly, Irish writer and director, and founder of MnáMná Films. In her opening remarks, Patricia spoke about the importance of creative risk, personal storytelling, and the courage it takes to put your work out into the world.

Each film was greeted with genuine enthusiasm, laughter, quiet moments of reflection, and generous applause followed every credit roll. After the final film, the foyer buzzed with excitement as guests congratulated the filmmakers and shared their reactions. For many students, it was their first time seeing their work on the big screen, an unforgettable milestone.

Griffith College’s BA (Hons) in Film, TV & Screen Media Production offers hands-on, industry-relevant training in all aspects of production. Students write, direct, shoot, edit, and produce original films, culminating in this very showcase.
