Time and Tofu is an ISTD editorial project exploring migration, labour, and inheritance through the story of my family’s tauki (beancurd skin) business in Melaka. Using the tauki-making process as both narrative and structural framework, the book traces my great grandmother’s journey from Guangzhou to Malaya in the 1930s through war, survival, and daily labour. Archival documents, photographs, interview fragments, and experimental typography are combined to reflect memory, repetition, and endurance. Rather than presenting history as facts alone, the project focuses on how routine, work, and resilience quietly shaped generations over time.
