Omar Bermamet
Now almost 40, I reflect on the past decade of my life, which has come to be defined by a perpetual mourning of all that once made me the sprightly creature that shaped my identity.
This work explores aging, loss, and desirability through the lens of my own slow, increasingly undignified transition out of twinkhood.
Combining staged and documentary photography featuring subjects, objects, and myself, I construct a visual narrative drawn from my thoughts, fears, and memories, examining the experience of aging out of twinkdom in the shallow and, at times, unforgiving world of the modern gay man.
The work invites viewers to reflect on the relationship between identity, desirability, and the slow detonation of my waistline.
