Digital Editing and Post-Production: From Rushes to Final Master
Raw footage is just material. The edit is where it becomes a story.
This one-year part-time Certificate in Digital Editing teaches you the craft behind the cut and the professional post-production workflow that gets it delivered.
You'll cut real footage on professional editing systems and learn how pacing, rhythm and performance are shaped in the edit suite. You'll also master the workflow that professional post-production depends on: ingesting and organising rushes, building a rough cut, refining it, finishing and mastering. By the end you'll know how to take a project from the moment the media lands to the moment it's delivered.
Two evenings a week in Dublin, taught by editors working in the industry now.

Modules:
Introduction to Post Production Editing
This module introduces learners to key aspects of digital editing and post-production workflows, including creating and organising projects, ingesting media, sequence construction, narrative storytelling, and creating mood, tone and pace. The module is positioned in the first year of the programme to generate an awareness of editing and its central role in screen media production while giving a practical bedrock for its execution in all subsequent tasks and productions in other modules.
Editing & Post Production II
In this module learners research and apply techniques, concepts and visual styles used historically and in contemporary audiovisual narrative, to creative post-production ideas for screen media. They acquire proficiency in generating audiovisual content to implement a structured narrative using advanced editing techniques and systematically generate visual sequences. The module also encourages reflection on new learning.
Advanced Digital Editing & Mastering
This 5 ECTS module covers the building blocks of digital imaging. Learners create narratives and apply editing techniques to analyse scene structures; sound, sight, pace and tension, etc. The practical sessions facilitate demonstration of the of key software features used to apply these principles to professional standard exercise footage, archive material and material generated by the learners themselves.

How to Apply
Entry Requirements
The programme is intended for applicants who have completed their secondary education. Candidates applying on the basis of their Leaving Certificate must obtain a minimum of two H5 grades and four 4 O6/H7 grades, to include Maths and a language (English, Irish or another language).
English Language
The English language entry requirements for the programme are CEF B2+ or equivalent. Candidates with English language levels below CEF B2+ must first reach this minimum standard before enrolling on the academic programme.
Candidates with equivalent grades from other awards and mature learners (23+) are also considered.
