Why Study Advanced Taxation at Griffith College?
Taxation is a highly technical and complex area which changes frequently and requires ongoing monitoring of policy. However, it is not only the tax knowledge that needs constant updating, but also the application of that knowledge and how we conduct ourselves with clients (both internal and external), that needs to be considered. There has always been a requirement for tax specialists, and this will continue to be the case. This course is designed to meet that need and will provide students with:
- Extensive industry collaboration with thought leaders in tax, nationally and internationally
- A clear client centred focus and more qualitative, innovative consultancy insights.
- Deep knowledge and application across a broad range of taxation issues, for Irish tax frameworks and international considerations.
- A combination of research and consultancy to provide a highly specialised and sought after range of skills and competencies
- Access to a network of employers and industry leaders through applied assessments, including live client cases

Modules
This module develops skills in the interpretation and understanding of Irish tax legislation, and in the application and provision of appropriate value-added tax advice to meet each client’s needs. It builds knowledge of the various taxes applicable, and the reliefs and exemptions available to individuals, family businesses, and corporations. The areas covered in this module include Value Added Tax, Income Tax, Corporation Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Local Property Tax.
This module analyses the principal features of the International Tax Law system, including the OECD Model Income Tax Convention and EC law as it affects Member States’ tax systems. It examines important issues such as the different approaches to Corporate Income Taxation, tackling International Tax Avoidance, International Tax Law as it applies to developing countries, and the issues in modifying established International Tax Rules to regulate E-commerce activity. This module is especially suited to those seeking a career within the tax department of multinationals.
This module uses applied and live clients to develop students' strategic and critical thinking, integrating taxation knowledge and skills within the broader organisational, strategic taxation context. It is designed to build the competencies needed to work in a professional taxation environment, together with developing soft skills (namely teamwork, oral and written communication and IT skills).
