Growth in The Irish Film Industry

The Irish film industry has grown rapidly over the last decade. The audio visual content production sector in Ireland itself is estimated to be worth over €550 million and employs over 6,000 individuals, with over 560 small and medium enterprises operating in the sector and this is before the added value that the industry brings to the tourist industry.

With the Irish government introducing an improvement to the financial incentive for the film, television and animation industries in 2013, new jobs are being created and this process is expected to continue into the future:

The sector has growth from 700 jobs 20 years ago to over 6000 jobs today with significant further potential.”

- Audiovisual Federation Director Torlach Denihan, Irish Film and TV Network (IFTN)

The future growth of the Irish film, television and animation industries, however, is dependent on finding the skilled workforce who will have the practical know-how, creativity and talent to deliver cutting-edge films and programmes.

So if you’re a Leaving Certificate student interested in working in film and TV then a degree in film production could be your first step to realising your dream.
