A mix of recent Griffith alumni and this year’s graduating classes met last month for the inaugural meeting of the Griffith Media Alumni Network. The key reason for holding the event was to celebrate The Circular website reaching the incredible milestone of over one million visitors since its conception in early 2013 as a platform for the College’s journalism students to publish their work.
Alumni and current students heard from Shane Creevy, the viral editor at Storyful, and Griffith lecturer and founder of Olytico, Stephen O’Leary, who discussed what were the most read Circular articles over the last two years.
Millionth Circular reader
The College’s Faculty of Journalism and Media Communications believe that The Circular's success in getting over one million visitors has been created by the talent of the College’s students and the drive of lecturer Stephen O’Leary.
“What began as a class project in February 2013, has evolved into a leading online news source. The work of the students – both past and present – has now been viewed over 1.1 million times. ‘The Circular’ website is visited by readers from across the globe, with over 1,500 articles read each day. Over the next 12 months we expect to double the number of visitors”.

At last month’s event Stephen outlined the top Circular posts from the last two years – ranging from listicles to sport articles and the top ten hip hop dance moves of the last decade! The top ten articles are:
