Julia Siegler is currently in her second semester in Griffith College as a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design student.
From Germany to Griffith
Prior to her enrolment at Griffith, Julia was a student at Modedesignschule Manuel Fritz in Germany. Griffith has a long running partnership with Modedesignschule where students can experience an Erasmus or exchange programme while studying at either college.
While studying Fashion at Griffith, Julia was selected by Programme Director Jane Leavey to represent the national institution with two other students at the Irish Fashion Innovation Awards 2019.
Irish Fashion Innovation Awards
The Irish Fashion Innovation Awards allow student designers to showcase their creativity and designs. The Awards give support and visibility to talented designers who are up and coming in the industry. Last year’s winner was Griffith College student Sara Murphy.
Speaking about her Griffith experience, Julia said, “Overall, I have to say that this year at Griffith College has made me a more independent learner and worker. It’s been a great opportunity to meet students from around the world and making new contacts and friends.”
Looking to the Future
Looking to the future, considers a number of potential avenues upon graduation, “Once I graduate I would love to get some work experience by working with brands with focus on sustainability and recycling. During my four years of specifically studying this market I had to learn how wasteful the fashion industry is in terms of fabrics and the way they treat workers.”
In its entirety, Julia claims the entire experience has made her more confident, “Opportunities to be part of events and competitions like the Fashion innovation award, produced by the Golden Egg has helped me to be more confident about showing my work and be proud of what I have achieved already.”
