Griffith College has launched a new Faculty of Science in partnership with Irish-owned Innopharma Education to enable people to up-skill for careers in the pharmaceutical, medical technology and food technology industries.
Currently these sectors, directly or indirectly employ over 50,000 people in Ireland, of which over half are third level graduates. With 18 of the world's top 20 pharmaceutical companies manufacturing products in Ireland, and 5 of the world's top 25 medical technology companies also based here, opportunities for employment are high in these industries.
The new faculty was launched last week by Damien English TD, Minister of State for Skills, Research and Innovation:
“The pharmaceutical, med tech and food sectors have undergone significant change over the past decade. Successful companies in these sectors have remained flexible and adaptive in their thinking, business strategy and staffing. This requires having an agile and flexible workforce whose skills are aligned to these relevant industry sectors that offer strong growth potential and the prospect of long-term sustainable employment. The Griffith-Innopharma Faculty of Science programme aims to achieve that objective.”
- Damien English TD, Minister of State for Skills, Research and Innovation
The Faculty will provide pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and food science accredited qualifications for graduates interested in direct entry or conversion to careers in these economically important sectors. Current courses on offer are the 1-year undergraduate BA in Pharmaceutical Business Operations , the BA (Hons) in Pharmaceutical Business and the MSc in Pharmaceutical Business and Technology
