Meet Deirdre Doherty, Head of Design at Griffith. Deirdre was kind enough to sit down with us to discuss some of the most rewarding aspects of her role and what she enjoys about the Design Faculty.
I have genuine passion about all things design; I still love to learn every day about changes and developments within the industry and its rapids digital changes which have occurred over the last number of years. I count myself lucky to have the opportunity to work with three of the design disciplines: Fashion, Interior Design/Architecture, and Graphic/Communication Design.
Shaping the future of design
I develop and design the curriculum which shapes the designers of the future. I work with discipline experts and endeavour to ensure that the constantly evolving profession is reflected in the design and content of our degree programmes.
Celebrating our student’s learning journey
It is a privilege to meet the learners at the start and end of their journey and see how they have evolved and matured. I am still connected to many of our Design Graduates and love to follow their careers.
My favourite part is seeing student’s final year work to see how far they have come in their learning journey with us. At the end of year exhibition we celebrate the student’s achievement with Industry Awards, and their family and friends.
When it comes to her colleagues, Deirdre is full of praise for them too!
“we all care very much about what we do”
There is a very friendly vibe amongst the people I work with. I have a great group of colleagues that I can always call on for a second opinion or even a shoulder to cry on. We all care very much about what we do and it’s really comforting to know that you have colleagues who have your back.
Deirdre, thank you for your participation in this project – it’s one of many great ways to showcase the fantastic faculty talent like yourself who we have at Griffith. Our design students are lucky to have your support throughout their studies!
