“Think not of yourself as the architect of your career but as the sculptor. Expect to have to do a lot of hard hammering and chiseling and scraping and polishing.”
- BC Forbes, founder of Forbes Magazine
Last Wednesday final year students were invited to a careers guidance and professional development seminar led by Seamus Fitzpatrick, Head of the Business Faculty.
Seamus covered a range of topics including career choices and the job search, writing CVs, application forms and cover letters, preparing for interviews, opportunities for further postgraduate study and the option of taking a gap year. He also distributed a comprehensive handbook specially written by Seamus for all Griffith College students and graduates to help them prepare for life after graduation.
If you were unable to attend the session and would like a handbook please email Seamus.
Sean Martin, Careers Adviser and Placement Officer at Griffith College is located in Room D003. Please email Sean if you wish to make an appointment for some careers guidance support.
Despite the recent economic downturn job opportunities do exist for graduates both in Ireland and abroad. The challenge for graduates in these difficult times is to be very resourceful and identify these opportunities by devoting considerable time and effort to the job search, and above all, remain positive, motivated and proactive.
Over the coming months there will be a number of blog posts dedicated to careers advice and the job search so watch this space!
