Develop the appropriate skills and knowledge essential for effective management within a business environment.
This part-time evening course is suited to the aspiring or newly appointed manager, the team leader, the self-employed and those interested in enhancing personal performance.
This course is validated by Griffith College. This course focuses on the development of professional skills, while it does not sit on the national framework the modules are drawn from Griffith College's suite of QQI-validated degree programmes.
Why Study Business Management at Griffith College?
The Professional Diploma in Business Management course is a part-time evening course conducted over two 12-week periods over an academic year. This course is divided into four modules and is designed to provide a practical grounding in the skills of management.

Course Details
Modules
On successful completion of this module, learners are able to:
- assess the roles and skills of managers at various levels of the business hierarchy
- examine the core management functions needed to manage a business
- apply the tools and techniques of management and assess the changing environment in which organisations operate
- discuss the importance of corporate social responsibility and ethics as critical elements of management practice
- demonstrate and apply key managerial skills, ie analysis, critical thinking, decision making, time management and report writing
On successful completion of this module, learners are able to:
- describe and discuss the role of the management accountant and their contribution to the achievement of changing organisational objectives
- identify and explain cost and revenue classifications and cost behaviour patterns
- describe and apply marginal cost accounting techniques
- explain and interpret decision-making techniques to evaluate business choices
- apply budgeting techniques and evaluate alternative methods of budgeting, planning and control
- compute and interpret basic variances
On successful completion of this module, learners are able to:
- discuss the role that information technology and information systems play in the business world
- apply IT concepts relevant to business and understand how they relate to each other
- differentiate information system types, and explain how they are used to shape business operations and the decision-making process
- apply practical skills in the most common office applications such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint as the industry standard
On successful completion of this module, learners are able to:
- discuss the importance of law to the operation of business in Ireland
- describe the essential aspects of the law of contract, negligence and employment law and their impact on businesses and to be able to apply the core principles in a practical manner
- explain the legal structure of business, including limited liability and the full life cycle of business from formation to winding up
- explain the role of ethics in business and identify ethical issues and their resolution in a business / organisational context
- recognise the ethical concerns in situations faced by managers at all levels of business organisation, and analyse theese situation and present solutions while reflecting on one's own ethical values and standards

Online Delivery: This course will next commence on Thursday, 26th September 2024. It will run one evening per week (Thursday) from 6.00 pm - 9.30 pm over 24 weeks, course dates outlined below.
Dublin City Centre: The next intake of this course will be on Tuesday 17 September 2024. It will run one evening per week from 18.30 - 21.30 over two 12 week semesters.
Cork Campus: This course will next commence on Wednesday, 25th September 2024. It will run one evening per week (Wednesday) from 6.30pm - 9.45pm over 24 weeks, course dates outlined below.
Exams will take place on campus (daytime) for courses delivered on campus and online. It is mandatory to attend exams in person.

Minimum of 2 H5 and 4 O6/H7 grades, to include Maths and a language (English, Irish or another language) in the Irish Leaving Certificate or equivalent award

Graduates from this programme may develop their skills further by completing a BA (Hons) in Business Degree or a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance Degree at Griffith College and will be considered for exemptions.
