Modules
This Business Management module is designed to introduce learners to the dynamic world of business and fundamental management concepts. This module focuses on the functions, roles and skills of managers and addresses operational and strategic challenges facing managers. Learners apply management frameworks and models to current business situations. In addition, the module introduces learners to responsible business practices, exploring how ethical decision making, sustainability and social responsibility plays an important role in modern management.
The focus of this module is on the core legal principles relevant to the conduct of business in Ireland and the EU. The syllabus is organised around key legal areas such as contract, tort, company law, employment law, and consumer protection, as well as broader themes including compliance, whistleblowing, and directors' duties. Learners explore the sources of law, legal reasoning through precedent, and the concept of legal risk, including available remedies. The role of agency in business is also examined, along with the legal responsibilities of corporate actors and the implications of insolvency. Legal content is contextualised through contemporary examples and real-world scenarios to support the application of theory to practice.
The principal objective of this module is to outline the role of technology with an emphasis on AI in business. It explores how information technology enables business processes so that an organisation can function and strive in a competitive environment: in other words, how technology is used to benefit business. This is achieved through the acquisition of practical information technology skills but also through an awareness and understanding of the overall role of technology. For all information technology skills that are developed, the learners understand the role that these skills play in the overall business function. Therefore, at a practical level MS word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint are used to develop the learners’ practical skills and the AI features within these applications are explored. IT concepts and trends are discussed and in particular the role of AI and its use within the business context.
This introductory finance module is designed to provide learners with the foundational knowledge and practical skills in the field of finance. This module provides the learner with skills to explore the financial environment in which an entity must operate, and to understand the various methods that can be utilised to finance the various organisational finance requirements. This module also aims to demonstrate the importance of working capital management and the tools to manage it, including an emphasis on cash flow. Whilst this module focuses on introducing basic finance related concepts to the learner regarding different business requirements, this module also focuses on personal financial planning, outlining its importance in achieving financial stability and reaching long term personal financial goals.
