Develop fundamental skills in art and design in order to progress into further 3rd Level study

Our Art and Design foundation course is an interdisciplinary programme that introduces the learner to a broad range of areas in the discipline of Art & Design.

Why study Art and Design at Griffith College?

Our Art and Design foundation course introduces the learner to a broad range of areas in the discipline of Art & Design. It is an interdisciplinary programme of study over one academic year that encourages exploration and experiment with different art and design disciplines & media.

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to develop an analytical and methodical approach to artwork and developing designs.

It is also to introduces the learner to a broad range of design disciplines before choosing their pathway in Interior Design/ Architecture, Fashion & Textiles, Graphic design & Illustration and Animation. It also allows students a pathway onto a level 8 award.

The key abilities which contribute to successful individual participation on the programme have been identified as creativity in design; competence in communication in a variety of media; an ability to draw; technical understanding; and organisation. Candidates are expected to have a keen interest in the cultural and social factors in design; creative expression and innovation; and to have a capacity for both independent work and teamwork.

Our Certificate in Art and Design Foundation Studies is a one-year level 6 course available on a full-time basis. The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to develop an analytical and methodical approach to artwork and developing designs.

  • Choose your own study pathway with modules in Interior Design/ Architecture, Fashion & Textiles, Graphic design & Illustration and Animation.

  • Option to further your study with a pathway onto our level 8 BA (Hons) programme.

  • The calibre of work produced by the Design Faculty has been recognised numerous times through industry awards and exhibitions.

  • An annual Creative Week showcases the Design faculty graduates with those of Media, Journalism, Computing, Film and Photography.

Entry Requirements 

Leaving Certificate

5 O6/H7 grades, to include a language (English, Irish or other languages) and either Maths, Art or Design and Communication Graphic.

Mature Applicant

Applicants over 23 years of age on 1st January 2017 must provide a copy of ID i.e. passport

English Language

If English is not your native language, you must show that your English level is of a suitable standard. For further information please contact a member of the admissions team

FETAC/PLC Entry Requirements:

Level 5: Min. Pass in a Full Level 5 Award achieved.

Applicants over 23 years

Applicants over 23 years of age on 1st January 2017 must apply to Griffith College directly online using the Apply Online facility on the Website homepage. Mature applicants will be asked for a copy of their passport.

Fees

Fee Information 

A Registration Fee of Euro 250.00 and a 2% Learner Protection Charge is applicable each academic year in addition to the fees quoted below. The fees below relate to Year 1 fees only.

2% Learner Protection Charge

All QQI accredited programmes of education and training of 3 months or longer duration are covered by arrangements under section 65 (4) of the Qualifications and Quality Assurance (Education and Training) Act 2012 whereby, in the event of the provider ceasing to provide the programme for any reason, enrolled learners may transfer to a similar programme at another provider, or, in the event that this is not practicable, the fees most recently paid will be refunded.
