A FUTURE WITHOUT LIMITS
163-165 South Circular Road, Dublin 8

For this project, I explored the adaptive reuse of Dublin Mosque located at South Circular Road (a protected structure) into a primary school for blind and visually impaired students. The objective was to create an environment that supports independence, safety, and sensory engagement through interior design and assistive technology. The concept Light & Life is inspired by the relationship between light and shadow. While shadow is often understood visually, in this project it is represented as a sensory experience through contrast, texture, temperature, and sound. High contrast elements support partially sighted users, while tactile and environmental changes are for fully blind users. The idea of shadow is transformed into a sensory wayfinding system that helps children understand boundaries and move independently. The spatial design focuses on clear, calm, and flexible spaces to include classrooms, a library, staff offices, meeting rooms, an auditorium classroom, a canteen for students and staff, and an outdoor mobility training area.
