ABBEY HOUSE COMMUNITY HUB
Abbey House, Jervis Street, North City, D1, D01KV56
For this project I have explored the adaptive reuse of an existing educational building,
transforming Abbey House into a community hub within Dublin’s North City Centre. The
primary objective has been to create a flexible and inclusive environment that supports
a wide range of community activities, while responding sensitively to the building’s
existing structure and urban context. Thus, my concept is driven by adaptability and
connection, focusing on the integration of social, learning, and wellbeing spaces that
encourage engagement and interaction. The new spatial layout promotes clear
circulation and a balance between open, active areas and quieter, more intimate zones
to support different user needs. Furthermore, multi-functionality is central to the
design, allowing spaces to be used in a variety of ways throughout the day. The overall
design approach is contemporary, incorporating vibrant yet purposeful elements that
enhance user experience and foster a strong sense of community.
