I am an aspiring film director interested in creating films that feel personal to me and are visually expressive. I approach the camera as a storytelling tool rather than a recording device, using framing, movement, and rhythm to shape the story. Through the two shorts I directed, Goin’ Back and Only Way Out Is Through, I explored two different sides of my voice: one more experimental and subjective, the other a more restrained style to allow the tough subject matter to speak for itself. I am especially fascinated by the image itself and by editing, which Stanley Kubrick described as something unique to cinema as an art form. In Goin’ Back, I closely related to the protagonist, Lola, particularly to her loneliness and her feeling of not belonging in the space around her. In the film, I used her experience to express something personal about myself.
