Ulster Bank, Blessington.

This project explores the adaptive reuse of the former Ulster Bank building in Blessington, reimagining it as a boutique hotel. The initial concept, Céilí, was inspired by the rich history of this protected structure, which originally functioned as a hotel and social gathering space in the early 1830s. The ground floor is characterised by deep, moody tones that create a sensual, relaxing atmosphere, offering guests a distinctive experience, particularly in the building’s original vault. The restaurant space incorporates subtle Art Deco influences, adding a layer of sophistication and visual interest. In contrast, the first floor (primarily guest accommodation) embraces the concept of Anáil (breath). This is expressed by using earthy tones, soft, warm lighting, and carefully considered interior detailing, creating a tranquil environment designed for rest. Externally, the building is envisioned to glow like a lantern, warmly inviting guests inside to experience a unique approach to hospitality.
