This project reimagines the former Ulster Bank, a protected structure in Blessington, as a contemporary boutique hotel. It creates a social and cultural destination centred on sustainability, inclusivity, and analogue engagement.
The building is designed as a space of transition, moving from social to intimate and from collective to personal experience. The ground floor flows from an open dining and bar area into the former bank vault, now an intimate listening room where low lighting, warm materials, and carefully controlled acoustics create a space for immersive, analogue sound.
A quieter route leads guests through a glazed corridor toward the upper floor, where a shared corridor allows for the exchange of books and vinyl. Bedrooms become calm, restorative retreats for listening, reading, and rest, including one accessible room.
The design balances traditional materials with contemporary detailing, inviting guests to slow down, disconnect from digital devices, and engage more fully with their surroundings.
