The Beacon House

Howth Junction Business Park, Kilbarrack Road, Dublin 5 - D05 H2K2

This project is a reuse of an existing industrial warehouse to a multi-disciplinary collaborative working space. Inspired by the nearby Baily Lighthouse, the design concept ‘from the rock to the light’ creates a vertical journey. It transitions from the grounded, focus zones of 'the rock' designed for tech developers, and communicators, going up into 'the light', an elevated, acoustically balanced space designed for visual designers. The Beacon House was designed with universal design principles at its core, and environmentally material selection. Because the project hosts a diverse professional community under one roof, every zone was intentionally planned for maximum inclusivity and is fully accessible for wheelchair users, from the public coffee pod zone up to the private office spaces. By providing a variety of accessible workspaces, the building ensures that every professional has the freedom to choose how and where they work best regardless of their physical or cognitive needs.

The drawing is a detailed layout including a canteen, open office space with height-adjustable workstations, specific technical notes regarding edge protection, acoustic cork flooring, and fire-protected escape routes.
This image shows a concept model presentation board titled from the rock to the light. The top images show initial sketches and paper prototyping of a lighthouse structure. The bottom row shows images of the finished physical model, with a lighthouse sitting on a rocky base with an illuminated, light at the top.
This image shows the hand sketches from the site visit. The board contains five hand-drawn sketches observations from site visit, including views from the entrance doors, exterior metal cladding, a large window, the interiors of the main entrance and the back of the building.
This image shows a 3D architectural visualization of the exterior of The Beacon House, showing a covered bike shelter to encourage sustainable commuting. The render shows the industrial building with large, red-framed windows, people interacting in the exterior, sheltered area for bicycle parking.
This image shows the client profile infographic for The Beacon House, categorizing target users into three main groups: From the visual disciplines to communicators strategists and digital and tech professionals.
This image shows the mood for The Beacon House project. It includes a text description of the design's biophilic approach and four images showing perforated timber acoustic panels, an office with cork flooring, a large skylight, and a black-and-white photo of an industrial warehouse ceiling with exposed steel trusses.
